All molds should have 3-4 thin coats of kiln wash. Kiln wash the inside of the mold and the top of the mold as the cover sheet rest on the top of the mold because it is made to be an 1/8 of and inch larger than the opening. The Molds are made to give shape to your designs using Millefirori. Once your Millefiori are placed in the mold, then place on kiln shelf and add corresponding cover sheet. First firing is to a temperature that will slighty fuse all elements together. Make sure your firing schedule ramps up slow and cools down slowly. Rapid firing and cooling can damage you molds and project. Remove project from the mold, clean up any rough edges and place on kiln shelf for second firing. The second firing is the finish firing. It is considered a fire polish plus. Final temperature will vary with each kiln. Make sure your final firing for the Heart and Cross do not go too high as it may cause the shape to loose it's definition. These molds can be used with other glass, just make sure your COE's match up. Frit fusing can be done with the molds, but you will find that the frit firing will need to go to a higher temperature and hold time. |
